Job description: Our client, domiciled in the Ikoyi in Lagos, invests in off-grid energy solutions spanning solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and gas technologies and helps bridge the significant energy gap in Nigeria. It is looking to recruit a competent, self-motivated, and dedicated Senior Portfolio Management Associate to join the team and help drive its organisational goals.
What will you do?
You will be responsible for investee management, portfolio company governance and post-deal operationalization. Governance and management of the organisations’s portfolio companies covering debt, equity, and other investments.
You will be responsible for helping to set and drive the portfolio management function within the organisations Investment Team. You will play an active role in the areas of investee management, including the monitoring of investee companies’ performance, the provision of strategic guidance and support, and the identification of opportunities for value creation and optimization at investee companies. You will also ensure that the organisations’ stringent ethics and compliance standards are adhered to by investee companies while tapping into the organisations’ deep bench of partners and tools to provide much-needed non-financial support & guidance to investee companies as may be needed.
You may also handle tactical deal delivery activities for select deals to keep your opportunity and transaction maturation skills sharp. This will involve, but not be limited to, financial modelling, market research, due diligence, term sheet drafting and negotiations, investment committee memorandums, deal closing, and disbursement. Post-deal investment monitoring, governance, and evaluation will remain your core remit.

The selected candidate will be required to do the following:
· Conduct detailed financial analysis of investee companies, including financial statement analysis, forecasting, and scenario modelling.
· Monitor and track The organisations’ investee companies’ performance metrics, including revenue, profitability, cash flow and KPIs.
· Work closely with investee company management teams to develop and execute strategic plans, identify and pursue growth opportunities, and overcome operational challenges.
· Identify and evaluate opportunities for value creation within investee companies, including potential add-on partnerships.
· Prepare presentations and reports on portfolio company performance for internal and external stakeholders, including investors, investment committee members and board members.
· Participate in strategy development for the organisation’s portfolio (optimizing portfolio structure based on portfolio performance analysis etc.
· Stay up to date on industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies to inform investment decisions and the provision of top-quality strategic guidance to The organisations’s investee companies.
· Perform any other work-related duties as may be assigned to you.
Requirements
What we need from you:
· A robust portfolio management background, with 8-10 years experience in Private Equity or Venture Capital firms (impact or fully commercial). Relevant experience with companies holding significant interests in other companies is also required.
· Undergraduate degree from a reputable institution in finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, and business administration – though the possession of relevant experience and expertise is more important to us. Having An MBA or CFA accreditation is a plus – but not as crucial as possessing significant domain experience and expertise.
· Strong financial analysis and modelling skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modelling software.
· Experience in the Energy Access sector, specifically in decentralized renewable energy solutions (e.g., solar home systems, battery-as-a-service, Mini-grids, cold storage, etc.) would be beneficial.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with investee companies’ management teams and internal stakeholders.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
· Strong integrity and ethics, intellectual curiosity, and a strong sense of work-ownership.
· Strong analytical skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality work products.
· Knowledge of the Nigerian, regional and global venture capital and startup ecosystem, including trends, best practices, and key players.
· An ability to combine big-picture, strategic thinking with attention to detail.
· Strong problem-solving skills, professionalism, and business acumen.
