Ruben Amorim has admitted current Manchester United team could be “the worst in the club’s entire history.”
The statement follows their 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The loss, which marked United’s sixth Premier League defeat in 11 games under Amorim, pushed the Red Devils further into turmoil.
The team has now suffered 10 defeats in 22 league matches this season, an unwanted milestone last seen during the 1989/90 campaign under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Additionally, the six home losses in their first 12 games at Old Trafford represent the club’s worst start at home since 1893/94.
United have also conceded first in their last five Premier League home games, a troubling streak for the Theatre of Dreams.
Currently languishing in 13th place, United sit just 10 points above the relegation zone and 12 points adrift of the top four.
Amorim, who took charge earlier this season, gave a brutally honest assessment post-matc.
“We are being maybe the worst team in the history of Manchester United,” he admitted.
“Imagine this for a fan of Manchester United, imagine this for me. You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. We need to survive this moment.”
He added, “Everybody here is underperforming, no matter the circumstances. It’s unacceptable to lose so many games—for any Premier League club, let alone Manchester United.”
Despite calls for tactical changes, Amorim insists his 3-4-3 formation would not change, emphasizing his belief in the system.
“I’m not going to change the way I see the game. The players and fans will suffer, but I know this approach will bring results eventually.”
The Portuguese manager also warned fans that further pain lies ahead before the team can recover.
United next face Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday, followed by a challenging trip to Fulham on Sunday as they seek their first league win in London since November 2023.
