Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has offered a positive update on Ronald Araujo’s injury following their 4-1 win against Sevilla on Sunday.
Araujo was forced off in the 22nd minute at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, raising concerns among Barcelona fans, but Flick remains optimistic about the defender’s condition.
“We expect test results tomorrow (Monday) and hope it’s not too serious. That’s what it looks like right now,” Flick told Marca after the match.
The Uruguayan is expected to miss at least a brief spell, likely ruling him out of Barcelona’s home clash against Rayo Vallecano on February 17.
Eric Garcia, who replaced Araujo against Sevilla and scored a late goal, is expected to step in during his absence.
Barcelona capitalized on a 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby, closing the title gap to one point behind Atletico Madrid and two behind leaders Real Madrid after 23 games.
Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha continued their strong form, both getting on the scoresheet.
However, the night wasn’t perfect for Barcelona, as Fermin Lopez, who also scored, received a red card after a VAR review and now faces a suspension of up to three matches.
