Popular social media critic Martins Otse, known as Verydarkman (VDM), has weighed in on President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, questioning the influence of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in the decision.
In a video shared online, VDM expressed his concerns over the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months.
He asked, “Who is really the president of Nigeria?” implying that Wike’s political influence played a major role in the president’s decision.
Tinubu announced the emergency rule on Tuesday, March 18, citing prolonged political instability in Rivers State.
The president also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the state’s administrator for the initial six-month period.
VDM, however, suggested that Wike was behind the nomination of Ibas, further fueling speculations that the former Rivers governor is positioning himself for a future presidential bid in 2032.
The social media critic also criticized Governor Fubara for rebelling against Wike without a solid political strategy, suggesting that the governor’s lack of preparation led to his current predicament.
“Who is really the president of Nigeria? why must Nyesom Wike gets whatever he wants, how can they do this, suspend a sitting governor for 6months, chase him out of the government house,” VDM said in part.
