Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon, with the French midfielder set to join Pep Guardiola’s squad ahead of the Club World Cup in the United States.
According to L’Équipe and The Athletic, City saw an initial €22.5m offer rejected before submitting a successful second bid in the region of €40 million.
The 20-year-old France international is expected to sign a contract running until 2030.
City accelerated the move following Kevin De Bruyne’s injury setback and view Cherki as a long-term solution with immediate impact potential.
The playmaker is expected to fly out with the squad this week and could feature as early as June 18, when City face Moroccan champions Wydad AC in their Club World Cup opener.
