Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
A Postdoctoral Research Associate position in computational thermodynamics and kinetics as well as pertinent experimental measurements is immediately available in Professor JC Zhao’s group in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Maryland (UMD) in College Park, MD. The successful candidate will be conducting full-time research in developing diffusion mobility databases for alloy systems by integrating experimental measurements with mobility assessments. The candidate will have opportunities to expand into other projects in Prof. Zhao’s group to broaden his/her research horizon, including applying the CALPHAD (Calculation of Phase Diagrams) approach to alloy design.
Minimum Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. or equivalent experience in natural sciences or engineering
Substantial hands-on experience in performing thermodynamic and diffusion calculations
In-depth knowledge of CALPHAD (Calculation of Phase Diagrams) approach and diffusion processes in solids
Ability to program in Python and perform calculations using Thermo-Calc or Pandat.
Strong publication record demonstrating original thinking, and ability to conduct research both independently, and collaboratively
Effective written and oral communication skills
Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA and are already in the USA.
Preferences:
Hands-on experience in making metal samples and performing metallographic analysis using optical microscopy and SEM.
