Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has said Nigerians don’t really understand how affordable petrol is in the country compared to other places.
Speaking at the launch of the Deep Sea Port Access Road reconstruction in Lagos, Dangote said fuel prices in Nigeria remain much cheaper than in other parts of West Africa, insisting that petrol is not expensive here.
“Some people here in Nigeria might think that petrol at less than N900 is expensive, but there is nowhere in West Africa where petrol is not selling above \$1, which is about N1,600,” he said.
Dangote also praised the recent improvements in fuel supply across the country.
He noted that most petrol stations that were previously shut down are now back in operation, promising that petrol queues are a thing of the past.
“The majority of fuel stations that were not working, they are now back to work; there is no more shortage, no more queues, and there will never be,” he added.
His comments come as Nigerians continue to express frustration over fuel prices, which currently range between N800 and over N1,000 per litre.
But according to Dangote, the situation is much better than it seems, especially when compared to neighboring countries.
Dangote also announced that the road leading to the Dangote Refinery has been named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a show of appreciation for the government’s support.
