Liverpool overcame a sluggish first half to secure a 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Southampton, with Darwin Nunez playing a key role in the Reds’ comeback at Anfield.
Still fatigued from their midweek Champions League clash against PSG, Liverpool fell behind just before halftime when Will Smallbone capitalized on a defensive mix-up to put Southampton ahead.
Tensions flared when Nunez narrowly escaped a red card for kicking out at Kyle Walker-Peters, but the Uruguayan quickly redeemed himself by equalizing six minutes into the second half.
Two minutes later, Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot after Smallbone fouled Nunez in the box.
The Egyptian sealed the win with another spot-kick in the 87th minute after a handball by Yukinari Sugawara, ensuring Liverpool remain in the thick of the Premier League title race.
