Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
The Magpies make early contact with the Brazilian’s camp over a potential summer move, reports talkSPORT.
The 25-year-old, who joined Wolves permanently from Atlético Madrid in 2023, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs after scoring 15 goals in all competitions this season.
Despite recently signing a new deal, Cunha remains a hot property, thanks in part to a £62.5 million release clause.
Manchester United are also in the mix, viewing Cunha as a potential fit for manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.
The Red Devils are seeking a dynamic No. 10 to bolster their attack, but have yet to initiate formal talks.
Newcastle, however, appear to have moved ahead in the race by initiating discussions through the player’s representatives.
Cunha’s agent is expected in England for face-to-face meetings with interested clubs, including United.
Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have also shown interest, but Forest’s pursuit may falter due to the forward’s preference for a big-six club.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are focused on other targets, with Viktor Gyökeres and Nico Williams reportedly ahead of Cunha on their shortlist.
Cunha’s on-field discipline has been a concern. He recently served a four-match suspension and was fined £50,000 following a red card against Bournemouth.
Nonetheless, he remains Wolves’ top scorer and returns to action this weekend against Tottenham.
