U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to return to the negotiating table with Israel, warning that the Islamic Republic is not winning the ongoing war and risks greater losses if peace talks are not initiated immediately.
Speaking during the G7 summit in Canada on Monday, Trump stressed the urgency of diplomacy amid the soaring conflict.
“They have to make a deal, and it’s painful for both parties,” he told reporters. “But I’d say Iran is not winning this war, and they should talk, and they should talk immediately, before it’s too late.”
His remarks come as Israel intensifies its aerial bombardment campaign targeting Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure.
The strikes, which began on Friday, have reportedly killed several top Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists.
On Monday, June 16, Israeli fighter jets struck the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) headquarters during a live transmission.
The broadcast was cut off abruptly the moment a news anchor began criticizing Israel’s actions, and a loud blast was heard before the screen went dark.
