Manchester United are preparing to open formal talks with Brentford over a potential £60 million transfer for forward Bryan Mbeumo.

But the Cameroon international is reportedly seeking a staggering £250,000-a-week salary, according to The Times.

Mbeumo, currently earning £50,000 per week at Brentford, is aiming for a fivefold increase if he completes a move to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old emerged as Brentford’s main attacking threat following Ivan Toney’s departure, ending the 2024/25 season with 20 goals and 7 assists across 38 Premier League matches, a form that has caught the eye of top clubs.

United, fresh off finalizing a deal for Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, see Mbeumo as a critical addition to Ruben Amorim’s rebuild following a dismal campaign that saw the club finish 15th in the Premier League.

However, wage structure remains a critical concern. Sancho and Rashford, two of United’s highest earners, are both expected to be offloaded this summer, which could free up the room needed to meet Mbeumo’s demands.

Newcastle are also reportedly monitoring the situation, but Mbeumo is believed to prefer a switch to Old Trafford.

United have yet to submit an official bid, but are expected to enter direct negotiations with Brentford in the coming days.
