Maryam Shetty Early Life


Maryam Shetty was born on April 8, 1979, in Kano, Kano state, Nigeria. Shetty was born in the ancient city of Kano. She is the granddaughter of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and the niece of the current Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, as well as the Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado Bayero.
Ms. Shettima was born into a Kano royal family and received her early education in Kano before attending the Federal School of Physiotherapy at Bayero University, where she earned a BSc with distinction. Ms. Shettima created a renowned career in physiotherapy while simultaneously being a social entrepreneur, in addition to her significant involvement in the field of women’s empowerment and widening her circle of participation in society, making her one of Africa’s most powerful young leaders.
She briefly worked at Dala Orthopedic and Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospitals in Kano before heading to London to complete her studies. She graduated from the University of East London, Stratford, with a Master’s degree in sports physiotherapy.
Ms. Shettima received an Honorary Degree from the Benin Republic’s ESGT University of Technology in recognition of her outstanding contributions to leadership and community development. Ms. Shettima also graduated from Emory University in the United States and became a practitioner of Kingian Nonviolence, which was influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
She also earned a Public Policy Challenges of the 21st Century Certificate from the University of Virginia. She has extensive experience in both clinical and international development, having previously worked for UKAid-funded programs PATHS 2, the State House Clinic at the Presidential Villa, and Child Care and Wellness.

Maryam Shettima has participated in numerous advocacy and awareness activities. She is famous for her charity initiatives, particularly in the sectors of politics, health, and education.
Maryam has led a number of activities on the successful #GivingBack platform, including the renovation of schools and public spaces in her home state of Kano.
Maryam Shetty served as Nigeria’s representative on the UN General Assembly’s committee on accountability, transparency, and anticorruption.
Maryam Shetty was involved in the Presidential Campaign Team’s field operations. Maryam Shetty also served on the Youth and Women Presidential Campaign Team and the Strategic Communication Team, where she contributed significantly to the smooth operation of the government.
Maryam Shetty served on the 7-member APC Congress Committee that convened the party congress in Delta State. Maryam’s work has had a long-lasting impact, thanks to her broad experience in clinical and international development.
She has worked on the UKAid-funded PATHS 2 program and provided her expertise at the State House Clinic at the Presidential Villa, as well as in the Child Care and Wellness sector.
Maryam’s passion for charity, however, shines through in her undertakings, particularly in education. She pioneered the successful rehabilitation of schools in her home state of Kano through the wonderful #GivingBack initiative, which positively impacted the lives of many students.
Her dedication to her country resulted in her selection to represent Nigeria in the United Nations General Assembly. She exhibited her unwavering commitment to her country by working on the accountability, transparency, and anti-corruption committees.
Maryam rose to prominence in the APC because of her political acumen and dedication to her party. Her contributions to the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council were warmly recognized, and she played a key role in selecting the APC presidential candidate.
She received an Honorary Degree from the Republic of Benin’s ESGT University of Technology in recognition of her outstanding leadership and community development initiatives.
