Manchester United have activated a contingency plan for Brazilian winger Antony amid uncertainty over securing a permanent €40 million sale, following his resurgence on loan at Real Betis.
Despite Antony’s improved form in La Liga, where he has netted seven goals including some standout strikes, interested clubs, including Betis and Atletico Madrid, are hesitant to meet United’s asking price.
Betis, in particular, lack the financial leverage for a full transfer but remain keen on extending his stay.
According to Relevo, United’s fallback is another loan move, preferably abroad, as the club is unwilling to offload Antony to a Premier League rival.
Betis remain in close contact with Old Trafford executives and could benefit if they secure Champions League football.
Antony, keen to maintain consistent game time in a system that suits him, is prioritising stability and regular minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
United are expected to factor in his preferences when finalising any deal.
If no buyers meet the €40m valuation, another loan deal, likely with an option or obligation to buy, appears the pragmatic route forward.
