Manchester City have been sent packing from the Champions League after a dramatic penalty shootout ended their back-to-back hopes.

Their second treble dreams have now been dashed in the tense encounter at the Etihad Stadium that ended 4-4 on aggregate after extra time, before Real Madrid prevailed 4-3 on penalties.

Real Madrid took an early lead in the 12th minute of the clash through Rodrygo, who capitalized on a rebound to find the back of the net after his initial shot was saved by Ederson.

City then fought back and equalized in the 76th minute, with Kevin De Bruyne firing home to level the scores at 1-1 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate.

This forced the tie into extra time, searching for an ultimate winner.

Despite efforts from both teams, the deadlock could not be broken, leading to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Real Madrid emerged winners, with Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic missing their spot kicks for Manchester City, while Jude Bellingham scored the last for the Spanish side.
