Who will you be supporting?
Hi, my name is Robert and I live at Spencer Court in my own apartment in Leatherhead, Surrey and will be supported by SeeAbility.
Experience supporting people like me, an autistic man with some complex health needs, would be a strong advantage. I am looking for calm, assertive Support Workers with a great sense of humour to join my team who are not easily offended. You need to support me to lead the life I want and to encourage me to be gradually more and more skilled and confident.
Whilst I need a quiet and happy environment in my home, I like to be busy. I really enjoy going to the betting shop as I love horse racing, going to the pub, listening to music, especially The Searchers, eating out and my collection of watches and clocks.
I’d love for people to join my team who have some of the same interests. I have autism and a brain injury which sometimes makes my behaviour challenging but that shouldn’t stop me doing the things I love and leading an active life, with the right support network, could that be you?
You will encourage me to learn life skills and gain independence but that’s something everyone needs at times. I ask for your patience, confidence and ability to see the value in small gains. You will follow coaching from my behaviour support person and a willingness to help when needed, we will get along just fine!
You will work with and provide care and support to Robert who has complex needs and exhibits a variety of behaviours. These can be physical and emotional challenges. If you have worked with individuals who have who have displayed behaviours that are described as challenging, Robert’s support team in Leatherhead is the place for you! In addition, experience of those who have spent time in an ATU setting to a supported living home would be to your advantage.
Responsibilities
- Providing direct support to Robert when displaying behaviours to enable them to participate in a wide range of activities.
- Ensure good working practice including understanding and awareness of health and safety.
- To promote independence and develop Robert’s skills whilst assisting with all tasks necessary to ensure positive life experiences.
- To work positively with other agencies, carers, and other services to ensure person-centred care for Robert.
- Develop and contribute to the maintenance of Robert’s records and support plans and act as a Keyworker when required.
- To support Robert to maintain a clean-living environment appropriate to meet his individual needs.
- To participate in regular and ongoing training relevant to Robert’s needs.
