Supervisory Responsibilities:
Management of Superintendents, Planners, Engineers, technicians, and administrative support staff in the maintenance organization. Lead contract maintenance personnel.
Typical Duties / Responsibilities:
- Prompt, regular, and dependable attendance is an essential function of this job.
- Lead the adherence to SHES requirements for the maintenance department. Maintain SHES awareness through team meetings, training, procedures, and discussions. Follow-up on incidents, etc.
- Conduct or participate in timely root cause evaluations of all SHES related incidents. Ensure that maintenance-assigned action items are completed thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- Monitor and enforce thorough and timely completion of temporary and permanent MOCs.
- Ensure that all SHES critical, quality critical, and PM required calibrations and inspections are completed according to plans.
- Manage the Maintenance department systems to ensure that the process equipment, buildings, service equipment, grounds, and all facilities are maintained in a safe and reliable condition.
- Identify, review, and report progress on Key Performance Indicators for the department. Report these measures regularly to upper management and internal customers.
- Participate in capital project implementation to assure modifications or additions to the plant address maintenance requirements (accessibility, spare parts list, etc.) and are conducted in accordance with proper engineering, environmental, and safety standards.
- Regularly monitor the effectiveness of maintenance systems and activities to ensure that they meet the needs of the organization.
- Setup and maintain systems for equipment repairs to ensure timely, quality, and cost-effective equipment repairs. Target OEM repair standards.
- Setup and maintain systems for preventive maintenance of equipment, which achieve on-schedule, quality, and cost effective PMs.
- Maintain department procedures/work instructions. Ensure that procedures are followed and up to date.
- Assure plant maintenance activities adhere to appropriate safety standards (OSHA, PSM, etc.), Environmental standards (ISO 14001, EPA, ADEM, etc.), Quality standards (ISO-9002, etc.), repair and maintenance standards (ASME, API, ISA, NFPA, NEC, etc.), best practices, and codes.
- Coordinate, monitor, and ensure quality of work of outside contractors performing maintenance work.
- Communicate regularly with operations, planning, engineering, and upper management to ensure that maintenance activities align with the needs of the organization.
- Coordinate and implement modern maintenance methods such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) , etc. Stay up to date through study, training, etc.
- Lead the development of a Plant Maintenance Budget with input from operations. Take ownership of tracking, monitoring, and reporting progress versus the budget.
- Apply the principles of Ethics, People Centered Management, and Group Philosophy in day-to-day maintenance activities.
- Research, plan, and prepare proposals for approval relative to procurement of major maintenance projects, service contracts, and other related matters.
- Work in conjunction with the storeroom to ensure that inventories of machine replacement parts, materials, and supplies are maintained at proper levels.
- Ensure that test equipment and QC procedures comply with established calibration standards and regulatory requirements to maintain compliance.
- Provide guidance to plant management in the scheduling and planning of major repairs and overhauls to minimize downtime and plant impact.
- Ensure that the department adheres to all plant policies such as HR, accounting, fixed assets, corporate compliance, etc.
- Monitor and assess staff work performance on an ongoing basis and provide performance feedback as needed, including completing formal employee performance reviews and developing and carrying-out corrective action plans to improve worker performance.
- Coordinate between Operations, Planning, Engineering, and upper management to work on highest priority jobs to minimize plant downtime.
- Lead the development of plans to replace plant-aging equipment in coordination with Engineering and Operations.
- Understand staffing positions and numbers relative to needs. Take the lead in requesting resources from management and working with HR to conduct hiring.
- Develop clear job descriptions for each staff position. Ensure that each employee understands his or her roles and responsibilities.
- Additional assignments as deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical area preferred (an Associate’s degree in a technical field will be considered).
- 10+ years of experience desired in industrial-based manufacturing.
- Experience in supervision and management of a maintenance organization or related experience.
