Nigerian lawyer, Nwa Okpoko celebrates as court orders a senior colleague to pay N150M as damages for years of online slander.
He took to his Facebook page to make this known in a post he made on the 30th of September.
In his post, he revealed that his senior colleague, Azubuike Ihemeje had told lies against his person some years ago which had made life miserable for him and his friends.
Having taken legal actions against the colleague, the judge ruled against
“Today, we went to court to take judgment in my case against my learned senior Azubuike Ihemeje.
The court found in my favor that Azubuike defamed me and told lies against me. The defendant ( Azubuike) was ordered to pay me the sum of 100 million naira as general damages and 50 million as examplary damages.
Total sum : 150m against him.
He was also ordered to apologize to me on his wall and an Injunction was granted restraining him from further publishing defamatory articles against me.
It is pertinent to point out here that Azubuike put forward no evidence to back up anything he said. He told bare faced lies against me and many people on Facebook and beyond Facebook gobbled it up and made my life as well as the lives of my friends miserable for years.
My Lord said “ no single truth exists in the statement of the defendant”.
People egged him on and when push got to shove, they abandoned him to face the legal repercussions all alone.
I am glad this first stage is over and I look forward to my learned senior’s next move.
May it please the court!”
