A young Nigerian lady has taken to social media to seek help after mistakenly transferring the sum of N800,000 to an unknown individual who has allegedly refused to return the money.
The lady, identified by her handle @ii_kach on X (formerly Twitter), shared her ordeal online, expressing deep frustration and emotional distress over the failed transaction. According to her, the funds were mistakenly sent from her Union Bank account to a GTBank account due to an input error.
“Please help me😭😭. I’m losing my mind 😭😭. I mistakenly sent 800,000 naira to a wrong account number (GTB BANK). I sent it from my Union Bank. I’ve been to GTB bank to make complaint and I was told that the account cannot be put on hold,” she wrote.
Despite her prompt action to report the incident, her efforts to recover the money have so far been unsuccessful. In a follow-up post, she revealed that GTBank was able to contact the recipient of the funds, but the individual blatantly refused to return the money and had allegedly begun spending it.
“The bank has reached out to the recipient and she refused to send the money back. She has also started spending the money 😭😭,” @ii_kach lamented.
Her story has since gone viral, drawing widespread sympathy and outrage from social media users, many of whom are calling for stricter enforcement of banking regulations and quicker interventions in such cases of mistaken transfers.
