Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and a former advisor to Donald Trump, has expressed regret over his recent public criticisms of the U.S. president following their heated dispute lastweek.
Taking to his social media platform, X, on Wednesday, Elon Musk admitted that his comments about Trump last week may have crossed a line.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Elon Musk wrote.
This comes shortly after Trump warned Elon Musk of “serious consequences” over reports that the billionaire might fund primary challenges against Republicans who supported a controversial spending bill currently being debated in Congress.
The public clash between the two influential figures unfolded on social media last Thursday, capturing the attention of millions.
The fallout stemmed from Elon Musk’s harsh criticism of Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending bill, which has faced opposition from some lawmakers within Trump’s own party.
Several Republicans who oppose the bill reportedly encouraged Elon Musk, who has been one of the GOP’s biggest financial backers during last year’s presidential election, to financially support efforts to unseat fellow Republicans who vote in favor of the legislation.
In response, Trump issued a stern warning in an interview with NBC News on Saturday, calling Elon Musk “disrespectful” and threatening undefined “serious consequences” if he proceeds with such political funding efforts.
