An 18-year-old girl has tragically passed away and seven others, including three children, were left critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into a group of pedestrians.
The incident, captured in a viral TikTok video, occurred on Sunday, the 18th, in Balsas, southern Maranhão.
The footage shows the group walking along a main road moments before a high-speed pickup truck appeared and violently struck them, sending several victims flying across the road.
According to reports, the impact claimed the life of Maria Eduarda Silva, a mother of one of the injured children.
Her sister, Maria Aparecida Silva, remains hospitalized in critical condition. Three others are currently receiving treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
The driver of the truck, identified as Maria do Perpétuo Socorro Cardoso Weiler, reportedly refused a breathalyzer test but showed signs of intoxication.
She was arrested at the scene and is expected to give a statement to the police on Monday, the 19th.
The Civil Police have launched an investigation into the tragic incident, which has drawn widespread attention online as many users flooded the comment section with reactions and condolences.
