Embattled Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, seeking reconciliation.
The meeting, which took place at Wike’s residence in Abuja, was reportedly facilitated by prominent political figures, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, and former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba.
Sources familiar with the development told DAILY POST that Fubara “walked straight into Wike’s living room because that’s a familiar terrain” and pleaded with the minister for reconciliation.
While the outcome of the meeting remains uncertain, an insider confirmed that it took place but refrained from commenting on whether it would resolve the ongoing crisis or lead to the lifting of state of emergency declared in Rivers State.
He said: “There was a meeting and I can confirm that.”
When asked about the potential outcome of the meeting, he added, “That I can’t confirm, but all I know is that there was a meeting.”
This development comes after a recent meeting between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London, which was part of ongoing efforts to de-escalate the political tension in the state.
Fubara and Wike’s relationship soured shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, leading to a deepening political crisis in Rivers.
Amid rising threats from Niger Delta militants warning of attacks on oil facilities, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.
As part of the emergency measures, the president suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the entire state assembly for six months, appointing a Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s governance during the suspension period.
Reacting to the presidential intervention, Wike had previously stated that he wanted Fubara completely removed from office, but he was saved by Tinubu’s intervention.
