Job Summary
Under direction of the Technical Integration Manager, the Expert is responsible for the successful deployment of advanced telecommunications infrastructure, services, applications, and systems using automation frameworks, infrastructure as code and other DevOps methodologies. He/she ensures that all business requirements are met by team members and projects, and contributes to the global evolution of CN’s I&T.
Clients can be from within I&T or direct lines of business. The Expert must connect the dots between application, telecom, infrastructure, and business processes. He/She ensures that the technology delivered is secure, reliable, available, resilient, performant, and aligned with safety standards as per business requirements.
The Expert works with teams and stakeholders across CN and across the industry. To be successful, he/she needs strong influential skills in order to align stakeholders and Integrators with the goals set by CN leadership.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead Telecom integration activities during the planning, build and deploy phases, working closely with Project Managers to ensure successful deliveries
- Contribute to solution designs by identifying the existing capabilities and sharing it with Solution / System Designers
- Estimate the overall solution costs (e.g. telecom, S&C, vendor, infrastructure, development, etc.) and share information with the Project Manager and stakeholders
- Work with Project Managers during the planning phases and identify skillsets and challenges applicable to deployments
- Support and supervise change controls done by less experienced team members
- Lab-test new configurations and software. Feed manufacturers to fix issues
- Investigate incidents through root-cause analysis and propose solutions for remediation
- Develop strong partnerships with Solution / System Designers to provide feedback on deployment challenges/gaps
- Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge in domains relevant his/her to responsibilities.
- Define processes and mechanisms to establish structured system deployment and integration.
- Provide technical guidance to Solution and Systems Specialists and expert advice to all stakeholders.
- Extend existing network automation frameworks to improve velocity of deployments and new version/feature testing
· As required travel to visit field sites and participate to solution deployment working with internal customers/users
Technology Innovation Leadership
· Collaborate with Expert Solution/System Designers / Integrators / Architects to develop new solutions and expose them to stakeholders.
· Interact with vendors to address present and upcoming requirements
· Explore advanced technologies with the potential to improve the efficiency, reliability and security of CN’s Telecom infrastructure, applications, network technologies, and services.
· Continuously assesses technical and deployment challenges and report proposals to upper management
· Lead POC/POT in Lab to test new solutions, configurations, and software
· Investigates incidents through root-cause analysis and propose solutions for remediation
People Leadership
· Engages & lead other technical teams to overview the success of the overall solution delivery
· Provides guidance, training, documentation about the solution and on required deployment tasks to other integrators, testers and operation teams.
· Drives integration decisions that span multiple domains & teams.
· Performs upper management technical presentations.
· Supports and supervises change controls done by less experienced team members.
· Leads activities to transfer new solutions to the Operational Support teams (T2C)
REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field of study
· Very good knowledge of the processes, methodologies, tools and techniques, used for integration and delivery of large information technology systems; including operational technology systems
· 12+ years work experience in roles involving complex hardware/software systems and telecommunications technologies including:
· IP and MPLS networking
· Data center network services
· WAN and SD-WAN
· Wired and Wireless access
· High-availability systems & safety-critical systems
· Firewalls and Cyber Security
· Virtualization and cloud technologies (asset)
· Automation, Scripting and Software Development (asset)
· 7+ years experience in technical leadership roles
· Cisco certification: Associate, Professional or Expert, or other Telecommunications specialties and relevant certifications
· Must have strong Arista and CloudVision experience. Arista AVD experience is an asset
· Comfortable working in all phases of the software development lifecycle as it relates to network configuration and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
· Comfortable developing and automating with Python, Ansible and Terraform.
· Knowledge of DevOps tools and technologies such as CI/CD pipelines and GIT
· Experience with architecture, design and deployment of networks on GCP or other cloud providers
OTHER COMPETENCIES
· Ability to understand complex business operations / needs and how they link to technological solutions that provide practical business value
· Very good knowledge of the processes, methodologies, tools and techniques, used for integration and delivery of large information technology systems; including operational technology systems
· Significant and proven experience in applying a structured approach to problem resolution
· Very strong influencing and presentation skills
· Strong leadership ability and excellent interpersonal skills
· Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work in an extremely fast-paced, collaborative environment
