Job Summary
The Electrical Project Engineer, Facility Management is responsible for leading the technical guidelines and standardization for facilities and associated infrastructure across CN’s network in Canada and the US. The incumbent will prepare guidelines, and provide technical support in troubleshooting issues.
Main Responsibilities
Design Management
· Provide technical support to develop and design pre-concept concerning electrical infrastructure and equipment, meeting code requirements.
· Create and maintain comprehensive electrical documentation, diagrams, manuals
· Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and contract documents including: One line diagrams and engineering studies
· Implement best practice in electrical engineering
Back office support
· Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans, testing procedures, and emergency response protocols for electrical infrastructure
· Oversee all electrical systems including power distribution units, automatic transfer switches, UPS, generators, electrical panels, and transformers
· Troubleshoot electrical issues to identify root causes of failures and provide support operations improving utility distribution reliability.
· Develop capital plans and budgets for infrastructure maintenance and growth
· Review drawings and specifications of proposed asset replacements, modifications or new installations
· Evaluate new technologies, identify potential benefits and assist with pilot projects and widespread implementation
Contract Management
· Manage vendor relationships related to electrical systems and infrastructure
· Prepare requests for proposals and conduct all necessary meetings to facilitate hiring professionals and required services
· Review contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate building codes and project requirements
· Coordinate electrical shutdowns, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of new electrical equipment;
Monitor and Quality Control Management
· Audit electrical safety and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks
· Perform testing and verification of Electrical systems
· Oversee training for team members on electrical standards, safety procedures, equipment
· Ensure electrical systems and infrastructure meet codes, standards, regulations, and certifications
Working Conditions
Standard working conditions in an office environment. The role requires minimal travel (30%) to plan with local resources, professionals, and contractors.
Requirements
Experience
· Minimum 5 years experience as an engineer
· Member of the Order of Engineers
· Experience in project management
· Proven experience in the review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability including Canadian Electrical Code, CSA codes and regulations, ULc, National Building codes, and others.
· Experience in management of professional consultants
· Experience in operating and capital budget forecasting, planning and management
· Railway experience*

Education/Certification/Designation
· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
· Project Management Institute – Project Management Professional (PMI-PMP) Certification*

· Knowledge of construction methodology, technology, and costs
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office software applicable to the area of responsibility, spreadsheets and MS Project
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office
