As a Customs and Export Operations Associate you will be responsible for supporting the implementation of import and export internal controls programs, including but not limited to development of new process and policies, resolution of any issues that arise along the supply chain, identification, and mitigation of risks.
Your ability to analyze critical data relating to import and export will be critical, identifying potential barriers, and providing recommendations to solve them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determine and maintain product classifications in internal systems, as the need arises, to communicate product information to Customs Brokers
- Respond to inquiries from customs brokers for products which require additional information to be cleared for import.
- Support Customs Broker to resolve any possible holds until issue resolution.
- Perform post entries review and document results with accurate evidence. Escalate to the Customs Compliance Manager in case of any findings.
- Address inquiries from customers or internal departments regarding export and customs-related matters.
- Implementation of policies and procedures related to Customs and Export Operations
- Stay informed about the latest customs regulations and export control laws in different countries.
- Communicate with various stakeholders, including suppliers and shipping companies
- Ensure that employees are aware of and follow established customs and export protocols.
- Propose and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in customs and export operations
- Experience with international shipping or supply chain management is beneficial
- Review shipping documents, including commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Experience with classifying goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes for proper tariff application.
- Able to determine the customs value of goods in accordance with relevant valuation methods.
- Highly skilled in identifying and mitigating potential risks related to customs compliance and export operations.
- Take the initiative to assist customers with customs and export-related inquiries and provide support in resolving any issues.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including shipping, procurement, and finance, to ensure smooth customs and export operations.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for managing customs documentation and export processes.
