Cristiano Ronaldo has issued a strong message to his Portugal teammates ahead of Sunday’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain.
The 40-year-old forward, who scored the winner in Portugal’s 2–1 semi-final victory over Germany, his 137th international goal, took to Instagram to inspire his squad ahead of the showdown.
“It’s because of us. This is for you guys. It’s by Portugal. Tomorrow is the day to make history again,” Ronaldo wrote.
Portugal aim to secure their second Nations League title after lifting the inaugural trophy in 2019, while Spain, fresh off a thrilling 5-4 win over France led by 16-year-old Lamine Yamal’s brace, seek their first.
Ronaldo, still captaining the Seleção, remains determined to impact football’s biggest stages.
While Spain’s Yamal is touted as a Ballon d’Or contender, Ronaldo recently stated he believes decisive Champions League performances should be the key metric, referring to Ousmane Dembélé, who guided PSG to a historic treble, as a frontrunner.
Sunday’s clash offers Ronaldo another opportunity to continue his 1000 and goal target.
