The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
- Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution center.
- Provide assistance with sorting toy donations.
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
- May provide assistance in the Kettle campaign where needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Working Conditions:
- This is a temporary position based on 28 hours per week.
- Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays.
- Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
- Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
- Local travel may be associated with this position.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed High School or equivalent.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
- Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs
- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Honest, courteous, and punctual; represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Contract dates: November 20th to December 23rd, 2023
