Chelsea have activated their recall clause to bring Trevoh Chalobah back from Crystal Palace, according to reports.
The move comes as the Blues face a defensive crisis, with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile sidelined and Axel Disasi’s future uncertain following a poor run of form.
Chalobah, who has been a key figure for Palace this season, returns to Stamford Bridge with immediate effect.
Since overcoming an early-season injury, the 25-year-old started 12 of Palace’s last 14 league games.
Chelsea director Paul Winstanley reportedly assured Chalobah of his importance to the club’s plans moving forward, a marked shift from the summer when the defender was deemed surplus to requirements.
Chalobah’s return also limits opportunities for summer signing Tosin Adarabioyo, who has already struggled for game time under Maresca.
This decision leaves Crystal Palace reeling, with Marc Guehi now expected to remain at Selhurst Park at least until summer.
