Como 1907 head coach Cesc Fàbregas is reportedly interested in signing his former Chelsea teammate, Nemanja Matić.
Fabregas wants to bring in Matic from Olympique Lyonnais during the winter transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Spanish gaffer, who took over as Como’s head coach following his retirement from professional football, is looking to bolster his squad to steer the newly promoted Serie A side away from relegation.
Como currently sit just one point above the drop zone with a modest record of four wins, six draws, and eight losses.
The Spanish tactician sees the 36-year-old Matić as an experienced anchor who could provide leadership and stability in the midfield.
Lyon’s ongoing financial struggles, compounded by sanctions from French football’s financial watchdog (DNCG), may facilitate the move.
With a transfer ban and the threat of relegation looming over the French club, Lyon are reportedly open to selling players for the right price.
Additionally, Fàbregas is eyeing Manchester City’s 21-year-old Máximo Perrone to further strengthen his squad.
However, the acquisition of Matić appears to be a more immediate priority.
