It should come as no surprise that getting a new job depends largely on a successful interview. To achieve a great result in your interview you will need to be well-prepared, as well as avoid some typical interview faux pas. This will help increase your confidence while facing the pressure of a job interview so you can make sure you put your best foot forward.

To help you ace your interview, I have prepared 10 dos and don’ts for job interviews.

The dos

1. Do your assignment

The first and most crucial stage in the job interview process is preparation. Going in without preparation means letting yourself down before the interview even begins. Doing some research on the firm you are interviewing for can give you a leg up and demonstrate your interest in the industry.

To expand your investigation and find out what the media is saying about the firm, check out their website and current news stories. Don’t stop there; be sure to look into the interviewer’s backgrounds as well, including their professional experience and notable accomplishments.

2. Do a last-minute check

Before the interview, check your teeth, hair, and attire. Make sure everything you need is with you including your resume and any document you were asked to bring with you. If it is something you can fix before your interview, then do it immediately. If not, then remain calm and try to salvage the situation as best as you can.

3. Create a favourable first impression

First impressions matter greatly when attending a job interview. It could very well be the reason you are hired or not. If you are attending a face-to-face interview, make travel arrangements, practice the interview if it will be in an unfamiliar setting, and arrive for the interview a few minutes early. It is unacceptable to arrive late for a job interview. Bring your resume and make sure you are familiar with the contents so you can discuss it with assurance and provide examples.

If your job interview is online, you will still need to make adequate preparations to make a good first impression. To minimize technical difficulties during a video interview, test your video tool the day before. On the day of the interview, make sure you are prepared and in a comfortable, peaceful location, at least 15 minutes early. The best option is to grin confidently and project enthusiasm and engagement; you won’t have the luxury of a solid handshake or making eye contact with the interviewer.

It’s crucial to look the part, and a well-fitting suit is usually a safe choice. Your presentation shows how interested you are in the position and how much you care about leaving a positive impression.

4. Be composed

During the interview, give a firm handshake to every person you encounter. For improved posture during the interview, choose to sit on a chair rather than on a sofa. As additional persons enter the room to participate in the interview, get up from your chair to provide a warm greeting and shake hands.

Try not to be anxious. Remember that this won’t be an interrogation; this will be more of a chat. Relax, and calm yourself before the interview. It won’t do you well if you are too anxious to do well in your interview. Preparing adequately beforehand, and making yourself familiar with your interview environment will help.

5. Be truthful and authentic

Portray your best self in the interview, and never someone you are not. When dishonesty is exposed, employment offers are rescinded and people are fired. You want your boss and yourself to get along well. You will not be satisfied with your job if you pretend to be someone else to be employed.

6. Present a cheerful disposition

If only for your cheerful disposition, your interviewer should want to employ you. The interviewer is assessing you for a possible position with them which means you will become their colleague if you are employed so act in a way that makes them want to collaborate with you.

7. Pay attention and respond appropriately

You should give your interviewer your undivided attention, do not let your mind wander while you are in an interview. Interviewers complain much too often that the applicant does not provide a straight and concise response to the query. Listen carefully and provide relevant, experience-based examples in your responses to any question you are asked. Make sure you respond to the questions the interviewer asks, not just the ones you think you should.

Pay attention to the interviewer’s body language and tone of voice in addition to what they say. Adapt your responses to better connect to the interviewer after you have a better understanding of their thought process. Ask the interviewer for clarification before responding to any unclear questions.

8. Prepare thoughtful questions for your interviewer

Keep in mind that an interview is a two-way conversation; by offering questions, you may show that you are interested in the position and that you are driven to achieve for the firm. It will also help you stand out from the competition. It will also help you decide whether this is the opportunity or company you want to work for.

Make sure to research the company thoroughly and ask questions that show you have done your homework. Ask about your concerns and explanations for things you didn’t understand when you were researching the company. Act with courtesy and decency, but have an open mind regarding the organization’s principles and goals as well as how you are treated.

9. Promote your abilities and knowledge

Make sure you succinctly and truthfully convey to the interviewer what your strengths are.

Any abilities that are pertinent to the position will be brought to light by effectively communicating your expertise and accomplishments. Prepare a career narrative that highlights your interests, talents, and experiences. You should also include personal anecdotes that highlight your professional and behavioural qualities. Emphasize achievements that are most relevant to the position.

10. Make an elegant exit

You may have done incredibly in your interview and then ruined it by leaving too hastily. Thank your interviewer before leaving, and offer a handshake as well. And lastly, send a thank you email and show your enthusiasm in hearing from them. This keeps you in the forefront of their thoughts and is courteous.

The don’ts

1. Don’t disparage your previous or current employment in public

Even if they are the competitors of the firm you are applying for, never talk bad about your previous and current employers. Never mention anything bad about a past workplace, even if you had a terrible time there. This is a serious red flag, and it will cause your interviewer to doubt your professionalism and believe you would do the same to them. Discover something good to say about each employment you’ve had since hiring managers want to see a positive mindset

2. Never misrepresent information

Respond to inquiries honestly and as concisely as you can. Describe and explain aspects about yourself that are relevant to the job being offered and accurately represent your prior experience. When you are being questioned about something that is not one of your strong points, be truthful, and let the interviewer know that you are open to learning more about it and how you can improve your knowledge of it. After that, mention any advantages you may have in a different field.

3. Don’t interrupt the interviewer

Being a good talker and listener is equally crucial. It demonstrates your maturity and adeptness in social situations. When your interviewer is talking or asking you a question, never interrupt them. Wait for them to finish before talking. He or she won’t have time to listen if you don’t.

4. Never allow a previous rejection to affect a subsequent one

Looking for a good job is never easy. You may have to attend several interviews and get rejected a few times. It is a normal aspect of life so do not allow yourself to get discouraged or angry, instead try to regard each interview as a fresh chance and take note of any errors you’ve made in the past. To make sure you are at your best, try to give yourself some time between interviews if you have many scheduled.

5. Do not be too relaxed

Remember that this is an interview. No matter what level of the interview you are at or who you are meeting with—it might be over coffee, a few drinks, or just a last conversation—it is still a chance to determine if you are a good fit for the position.

Try to maintain professionalism as much as you can. Don’t put anything on the interviewer’s desk, smoke, or chew gum. Even if the interviewer seems acquainted, don’t seem too friendly, use first names, joke a lot, give yourself pats on the back, etc. When your interviewer greets you, give a strong handshake, look them in the eye, and wear a smile. Avoid using your mobile phone during the interview. If it does ring, swiftly apologize and turn it off. Also, avoid answering calls and checking text messages.

Make sure you get the name and pronunciation of your interviewer by paying attention. Until instructed differently, address your interviewer using their title (Ms., Mr., Dr.) and last name, even if they provide you their first and last names.

6. Do not ramble

Long responses may come out as unsure of yourself, or lacking concentration. On the other hand, steer clear of providing a simple, straightforward “yes” or “no” response to inquiries. Instead, use succinct, targeted examples from your past work experience.

7. Do not accept poor treatment

Anticipate receiving adequate treatment and do not let yourself be treated otherwise no matter how much you want the job.

8. Don’t make excuses

Accept accountability for the choices and deeds you commit to. This will show that you are a responsible individual and will take account of your mistakes in the workplace.

9. Avoid coming off as materialistic or desperate

Acting as if you would accept any job or that you need work is not appropriate.

Avoid conveying the idea that an organization’s location is the primary reason it interests you. Avoid coming off as a salary-focused person and wait to inquire about compensation and perks until the employer brings it up.

10. Do not be too humble

Your moment to shine is during a job interview. Talk with confidence about all of your noteworthy accomplishments and abilities. However, you should avoid bragging.

Mohammed “Mo” Gulamabbas Dewji, Africa’s youngest billionaire is a perfect example of Tanzania’s consistently growing economy and match towards prosperity. This is because his conglomerate alone which is called  Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (MeTL) Group has over  150 product lines and has been estimated to be generating revenues of about $3 billion.

In such a country that has a GDP of about seventy billion dollars, the revenues from his numerous businesses are considered enormous in comparison. MeTL has stakes in practically every productive sector of the economy, including trading, agriculture, manufacturing, packaging, milling, logistics, mobile communications, IT, financial services, and real estate. It employs around thirty-seven thousand people throughout Tanzania and has economic interests as far as neighboring East and Central African countries.

The group offers the nation’s largest network of stores and distribution sites for practically almost everything.

This article details the billionaire’s early life to all his accomplishments in adulthood.

Early age

Mohammed, better known as Mo Dewji, is frequently likened to prominent African businesses because he exemplifies their passion, assurance, and desire. He is seen by the majority of Tanzanians as a local who rose to prominence despite his wealth and Asian origin.

Before he was born, his family and ancestors already had that business acumen and a knack for being successful in trading, because this is evident with his ancestors who were successful in their business. For example,  his external grandmother managed a tiny duka (store) out of her home, dividing big volumes into smaller pieces and selling them at retail prices that the majority of people could afford, along with other elections of whatever was needed, such as soap, matches, and paraffin oil.

Gulamabbas Dewji, his father, took over the mother’s business and increased its operations by importing and exporting an expanded range of goods, such as wheat, sugar, and soft goods such as soap and toothpaste. He also expanded to exporting agricultural products such as cashews, wheat, and corn

Along with establishing a successful distribution network, the senior Dewji founded the conglomerate,  MeTL in the 1970s, after the country’s financial situation began to improve at the time. The group, which was worth roughly thirty million at the beginning of the century, had become one of the country’s largest trading business

However, the company was still essentially a family affair, and Mo recalls that when he was eleven years old, his father began mentoring him about business and how the industry works. He even took him on long business trips abroad to mentor him about the wider world of trade.

Education and profession

Mo was sent to the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy in Orlando, Florida because he loves golf and wanted to perfect his talents and maybe become a professional.

After a while, he began to rethink his ambition of becoming a pro golfer and later went to standard Florida high school. From there he went to  Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he studied theology, international business, and finance. He decided to stay back in New York and got a job as a broker in one of the firms on Wall Street, but managed to live within his means after paying exorbitant rent and taxes while enjoying the high life in New York.

In an interview with the editor-in-chief of Billionaires. In Africa, he claimed that he asked his father for financial help. The answer was an emphatic no. “In Tanzania, there are billions to be made and a family business to run, while he was racing after pennies in New York and aiding Americans in building their economy”, his father sternly reminded him.

Mo Dewji’s decision to return home was heavily influenced and supported by his father, who considered it as well, rather than forging a new life in the West as many of his and previous generations had done. This is significant because it is among Africans who have achieved great success in school or employment in the West, and end up foregoing the comfort and opportunities for personal growth abroad and bringing their expertise, new skills, and knowledge back home.

Like many Africans of his generation, he was perplexed as to why the continent’s desperately needed industrial revolution, which had been a cornerstone of numerous government programs, was taking so long to come. Why was there so little added value, and why are so many consumer items still imported? How can Africa advance if it does not embrace industrialization for both domestic and international trade?

His father argued that it was not yet time to leave their trade comfort zone, but Mo was certain that industrialization was the best course of action and devised plans for an edible oils factory as a starting point.

Business and opportunities

His chance came in early 2000 when the government chose to privatize some loss-making state-owned firms created during the country’s socialist past. These enterprises had been pushed down to bankruptcy due to government inefficiencies, and they were willing to sell them at bargain prices, he recalled.

He made considerable investments in new equipment and vertically integrated management systems. The transformation has been described as “miraculous.” Between 1999 and 2022, his leadership, administration, and vision grew MeTL’s value from $30 million to about $2 billion.

He has also been constructing factories all over East and Central Africa and plans to increase the plants’ current 1 billion bottle capacity to 3.5 billion bottles over the next 24 to 36 months.

Philanthropy

He became a member of the Giving Pledge in 2016, a group of philanthropists who pledge to leave the bulk of their money to charity organizations either during their lifetimes or in their wills. Melinda French Gates, Bill Gates, and Warren Buffet were the founders. Precious Motsepe, Mo Ibrahim, and Tsitsi Masiyiwa are a few other Africans who have pledged money. Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa are another.

Dewji has a tremendous affinity for community service, which permeated most of his endeavors even before the awful tragedy. The kidnapping certainly caused him to consider the frailty of life and reconsider his goals.

Mo Dewji’s Venture into Politics

Dewji entered politics in 2000, and his victory in the House of Representatives for his Singida home seat in 2005 was not unexpected.

Residents recall his building schools, drilling wells, improving farmers’ access to water, granting scholarships, rebuilding mosques and churches, installing street lights, and supplying food during droughts.

He resigned in 2015, citing he did not have enough time to fulfill his commitments as an MP owing to the demands of his business and the associated foreign travel. To continue his charity work, he launched the Mo Dewji Foundation in 2014.

Mo Dewji is kidnapped

Before one tragic day in 2018, everything seemed to change for Mo Dewji when he was kidnapped from a gym he visited and imprisoned in a secret location for 10 days by as-yet-unidentified men. He was a well-known character in Dar es Salaam, transforming people’s lives and appearing on the pages of magazines such as African Business and Forbes, among others.

Using the hashtag #bringbackMo, millions of people prayed in unison for Mo’s release while he was still in prison. He claims they stood up for him and prayed for him among the poorest of the poor. Amazingly, it was. The sensation was fantastic.

He claims that he had plenty of time while he was a prisoner to think back on his life and reconcile the situation he was in. He expressed his gratitude to God for giving him a second opportunity in life and noted that his priorities had changed. He no longer had the desire to work more for the greater benefit of society and to give back; instead, he had the desire to become more personally affluent.

Conclusion

Given his leadership talents, passion, and desire, Mo Dewji, 47, is still in his prime and has a long way to go on a road that will help guide his nation toward its objective of industrialization.

Although he may have inherited a substantial fortune and a successful business from his father, there is no disputing that he was shrewd and wise in going forward and taking advantage of the opportunities that were offered to him.

So what is all this buzz about Facebook monetization? I believe you have seen content creators begging for followers, and also begging you to like and engage their content. Some even go the extra mile to buy followers while others spend their earned money to run Facebook ads to create awareness about their page and get more followers and likes.

Now have you wondered why they do all this? Do you think there is something they are not telling you?  Or do you feel you’re missing out on great financial opportunities?

I can assure you, that you’re not alone, as many want to know what’s behind this massive craving for followership and how they too can cash out from Facebook.

Yes, there are indeed tons of ways in which you can monetize your Facebook and turn it into a cash printing machine if you get the know-how.

This article explores all you need to know about Facebook monetization and some little exceptions you must know.

How to monetize your Facebook page

There are several ways you can monetize your Facebook page, but first, you must have grown your page to a reasonable amount of followers and a good number of engagements. Below are the following ways you can monetize your page.

Facebook monetization policy and in-stream ads

Facebook pays creators who have met certain criteria on their Facebook page.

Here is how to know if you have met the Facebook requirements for monetization

The first thing is to read the Facebook Creator Studio’s instructions on how to upload content and monitor the success of your videos.

You should do this by going to the right-hand column on the Home Page and selecting “Monetization” from the list.

Then you go to the  ‘Overview’ part which will let you know what kind of monetization you approve of. From there, you may check it out. Another thing you must note is that the eligible age for this is eighteen years old.

Check to verify if your information is accurate before clicking “Set up Monetization.”  then you will receive a confirmation email, and you should rest assured that the money might soon begin to come in.

However, that is only the first loop.

The next thing is what we call In-stream advertising from Facebook.  This works like Google Adsense. This is where the main hassle and work is and when you get this right, you will surely see money flowing right into your account. But it’s quite difficult to meet these requirements unless you put in the effort.

To be certified and be able to secure these ads before, during, and after your Facebook videos (for which you will be compensated and paid), you must have met the Facebook Partner Monetization Policies that were previously covered.

Next, you need to have five videos that are all currently live and are each longer than 60 seconds.

Additionally, you must have at least six hundred thousand minutes of views during the last sixty days.

Then if you’re monetizing live streams, sixty thousand of those minutes must come from live broadcasts.

Also, 3 of your at least 5 videos must come from live sessions

The last requirement is that you have at least 10,000 followers.

Influencer marketing

One of the thriving businesses in the online space is influencer marketing. But first, you must seek to have a large follower base, with real-time engagement.   This means the page must be alive and thriving.  This is where your work as a creator comes in.

You must be able to continuously post exciting,  and valuable content to your page, depending on the niche you choose. There is also the place of your followers knowing you, liking you, and having great trust for you. When all these are in place, then you’re set for monetization as a digital influencer.

And so as one with a large follower, business owners will seek you to help them post their products or promote their brand on your page. This is where the money begins to come. Then charge them at your rate.

Organic Traffic Generation

With a pool of massive online followers, you can drive massive traffic to your website or blog or even WhatsApp or any other social media. This, like what I have said already predicts how much you have invested on the page. That is how much content you post that is valuable,  and how much followers have come to like you, know you, and trust you.

With this in place,  and having built your site, with relevant content,  you can drive traffic from your already established Facebook page to the site. All you need to do is write good content and add the link to your site to it.

This will help to boost the traffic to your site, which in turn will turn out to be money as long your site is monetizable.

 Affiliate marketing

As an affiliate marketer, owning a page becomes important.

This will help to drive organic traffic to your product page. And like I said, by this time, you must have done the work of making them engage your post, and also the know, like, and trust factor must have been in place too.

When you recommend this product to your loyal followers, most of them have no choice but to buy it because it is coming from you.

How to Monetize a Facebook group

Like a Facebook page, there are several ways one can monetize a group created by him or her.

Have you wondered why millions of groups and more are being created daily? Though not all are created for monetization purposes, as an administrator of a Facebook group, there are different potential ways to monetize the group.

But first, you must, you must be able to grow the group to a reasonable amount of members. Also, the group should be tailored to a specific niche or purpose.

Finally,  while it’s advisable to make the group public initially, with no restriction on who can post,  a time comes when you put a cap on posting, where you as an admin must approve every post before it’s displayed to all members.  Though this rule is generic,  it’s just at your discretion as an admin to know whether you have enough people in the group before such action is taken. Also, as an admin, you have the exclusive right to flag any post or comment as unacceptable and delete them.

Now here are some of the ways you can monetize your group

Influencer marketing

As group admin or the owner of a group,  you will always be met by people who want to showcase their brands in your group.  Or sell their product. They will then meet you privately to discuss their intent and terms with you.  Having agreed,  they may go to post, while you approve it.  Now someone else, being a member of the group, will want to post or sell a product in the group, you have the right not to approve the post.

Selling of products and services

As an admin, you have the exclusive and unhinged right to sell whatever you want on that group, provided it resonates with your group members.

Affiliate marketing

As stated above the Facebook page, also applies to Facebook groups.  But the connection is not as deep in comparison to that of a page.

Conclusion

Facebook monetization is a big way to get money if you are ready to put in the work and your expertise. Many page owners even go the length of running paid ads. Some also buy massive followers which is not advisable for several reasons.

However, it’s noteworthy to check if your country is eligible for Facebook in-stream ads. This is because one might meet all the requirements, but it’s still dependent if your country is eligible for payment.

As a transcriptionist, working from home is a terrific opportunity to have flexible hours and a reliable income.

A transcriptionist is an individual who listens to an audio or video recording and then accurately writes every word said while producing a clear document devoid of spelling, grammatical, and punctuation problems. This might be a lucrative job for you if you’re an accomplished typist with solid grammatical abilities.

It’s crucial to have good attention to detail as a transcriptionist since transcribing businesses demand a degree of precision down to every word. You could be requested to transcribe podcasts, interviews, business meetings, and lectures from the classroom.

It’s very easy to get well-paying work as a transcriptionist as long as you are good at what you do and have the right knowledge. If you’re racking your brain thinking of where to start then look no further, as I’ll outline 12 companies that hire transcriptionists.

1. TranscribeMe

TrannscribeMe is one of the best transcription companies out there. The initial salary range is $15 to $22 per hour of audio. You may take on as much work as you’d like, and the typical length of the transcriptions is between two and four minutes.

To work for them, you need to take a training course and pass the English test; use Google Chrome as your browser. Once you’ve finished your transcriber training course, TranscribeMe enables newcomers to start without any expertise or specific equipment. They use WorkHub, where transcriptionists may pick and choose which audio recordings to finish when they have time. As one clip ends, the next one starts loading automatically until you decide to stop.

Additionally, TranscribeMe provides prospects for promotion in “Special Teams” for medical transcribing and “Special Styles” for high-end customers.

2. Speechpad

Speechpad pays their transcriptionists from $0.25 to $2.50 per minute of transcribing, and you may choose the projects that best appeal to you.

To work for them, you need to send an application and then pass a grammar and typing test. All you’ll need when your application is approved is a computer and a strong internet connection. Speechpad offers all the tools transcribers need to make the most of their time. They have support personnel available to you around the clock, seven days a week.

Speechpad also provides examinations that you may pass to gain ratings that will assist you in choosing which audio transcripts are accessible to you. You are free to choose your projects and may be able to find employment with greater income.

3. Quicktate

There are several transcribing services available from Quicktate. Quicktate calls for transcribing expertise, so, if you’re just getting started, this may not be the best choice. The requirement to work for Quicktate includes passing a background check, providing three references, and paying the $20 background check cost.

Additionally, much as with other transcription jobs, some degree of English proficiency is necessary. If English isn’t your strongest language, Quicktate also offers the opportunity to transcribe in other languages.

Quicktate pays their transcribers 0.0025-0.005 cents per word

4. Rev

Rev is one of the greatest places to get online transcribing jobs, with more than 170,000 customers worldwide, including CBS and Viacom.

An excellent opportunity for any aspiring freelance writer, Rev is constantly searching for transcriptionists with exceptional English skills and attention to precision.

You no longer need any prior expertise with transcription work to get started; you only need to pass a grammar test and submit a brief transcription sample.

The rate is between $0.40 to $0.75 per minute of audio.

5. GoTranscript

GoTranscript is the ideal choice for you if you’re seeking diversity. They give you the freedom to decide when and on which projects you wish to focus your efforts. The company, which has been operating for more than a decade, promises to have plenty of work for motivated transcriptionists.

According to the quality of their job, transcriptionists are given ratings and are paid up to $0.60 for each audio minute.

To become a transcriptionist at Gotranscript, you need to pass the exam first. After that, you can have your on the project you want to work on. They also provide entry-level transcribing jobs.

6. BabbleType

Babbletype is a very discerning and exclusive transcribing firm that is always on the search for fresh talent.

The market research studies that Babbletype specializes in need a high degree of accuracy.

Before being employed, you must watch a 30-minute video, go through an interview, and pass a lengthy period of paid testing. Typing speed is less significant than the accuracy of the content summary.

Native English speakers are used by Babble Type for translation, editing, and transcribing. They let transcribers pick their assignments and provide flexible hours.

7. Scribie

For customers, Scribie provides two options: Services for automated transcribing (80% to 95% accurate); and 99% accurate human-generated transcription services. Naturally, the A.I. solution is more affordable and faster than human-generated transcription.

Nevertheless, some customers find the inconsistent accuracy of AI to be off-putting. AI, like humans, is far from flawless, thus skilled transcribers are still required for quality control.

At Scribie, each audio recording is subjected to a lengthy transcribing process that involves many employees.

To work for Scribie, you must first pass their exam. Both seasoned and inexperienced transcriptionists are hired by Scribie. A waiting list exists, nevertheless, to begin working as a freelancer.

They give bonuses to individuals who finish three hours of audio transcribing each pay period.

8. 3Play Media

Either in English or Spanish, 3Play Media provides the option to work as a transcriptionist. Additionally, they need editors to correct inaccurate transcriptions.

You’ll need to get acquainted with the proprietary transcribing software used by 3Play Media and pass proficiency tests to begin working for them.

You are paid weekly, and 3Play Media points out that even if you simply transcribe for a few hours, you are still rewarded. Although they pay for the specific assignment, 3Play Media estimates that this works out to an hourly rate of $10 to $30. They provide flexible work schedules and hours.

9. Way With Words

High English proficiency might be your ticket to a career with Way With Words. Particularly sought-after are transcriptionists with an understanding of various accents. You don’t need any prior professional experience, and training is offered.

Pay rates range from $.45 to $1.73 for each audio minute, depending on the deadline. According to Way With Words, your income will increase as you get more expertise with transcribing and develop a speedier writing style. Although a certain typing speed is not specified, accuracy is anticipated.

You need to pass their exam as a requirement before you can start working with them.

By accepting tasks that need to be completed more quickly, you can earn more money. Way With Words recruits inexperienced starters.

10. Pioneer Transcription

Check out Pioneer if you have some expertise with transcribing and are meticulous with a strong command of English.

Pioneer Transcription Services will administer a transcription test to you once you complete the online application. If you succeed on the exam, you may start working as a subcontractor for transcribing projects.

One-on-one interviews are transcribed for the most part at Pioneer. They typically pay $1 for each audio minute.

Conclusion

The need for transcribing services has skyrocketed, meaning there are now more options than ever before for skilled transcriptionists looking for flexible and satisfying work. As seen by the wide range of companies mentioned above, the field of transcription has a wide range of opportunities for those looking for remote employment or an additional source of income.

The need for transcriptionists is expected to expand across a range of sectors due to technological developments and a greater focus on digital content. As a transcribed or aspiring transcriber, you may take advantage of these expanding opportunities by keeping up with the changing needs of various businesses and your experience to establish a lucrative career in this fast-paced industry.

Due to the severe and crippling unemployment rate in Nigeria, self-employment has already become widespread, and it seems like it is here to stay at this point.

Working for oneself rather than always working for an employer is known as self-employment. A self-employed individual follows their passions and makes money from the goods or services they provide.

In Nigeria, self-employment often takes the form of becoming a freelancer or starting your own business. Being your boss has several advantages. You have the freedom to work and travel, and you may launch your firm with minimal money, particularly if your primary interests are online. However, self-employment is not only sunshine and rainbows, there are a lot of obstacles facing self-employment in Nigeria.

In this article, I will outline the challenges self-employed people face in Nigeria and how to overcome them.

1. Loneliness

In Nigeria, taking a chance on self-employment may cause you social isolation and loneliness from your friends. This isn’t entirely their fault since there wouldn’t be as many after-work social events or get-togethers with coworkers if you were self-employed. Making new acquaintances would also be challenging since you will be working alone all the time.

After a time, loneliness is inevitable, but that’s normal. Instead, it should motivate you to put even more effort into your new endeavour since you will be glad that you persisted in this later on.

If you want to avoid loneliness while being self-employed, you must set aside time for socializing. Reach out to friends and family and invite them to hang out. If possible, try not to live on your own, share your apartment with a close friend or live close by.

2. Poor financial Security

Losing your monthly salary is one of the major obstacles to launching a small business in Nigeria.

To address this issue, make sure you have sufficient money before making the change or leaving your current position.

Starting a side business and managing it alongside your day job for a while before leaving the latter is another possibility. In this manner, before you even begin, you will be saving money for those first months of working for yourself and gaining the necessary clients and expertise.

3. Multitasking

Being a jack of all trades will do more harm than good to you. You might think that taking on a wide variety of customers will increase your chances of making money but it will not. Focusing your attention on a small group of customers and catering to their needs will help you build a loyal customer base that will keep coming for more.

For instance, if you’re into the clothes business, you shouldn’t try to sell the kind of clothing so you will have more customers but try to niche down. If you feel more in your element selling underwear or female wear then focus on that.

Multitasking also comes in the form of doing too much on your own. From the beginning of your self-employed career, you will undoubtedly need to wear several hats as a new business owner.

You would have a ton of tasks to do, all of which needed to be done correctly. You have to learn new skills to keep up with your new responsibilities. This can lead to burnout quickly if you don’t learn to take it easy on yourself.

4. Time management issues

Lack of time management is fatal for self-employment in Nigeria. Since time is money when working for yourself, how you use it will determine whether you succeed or fail.

Mastering time management will keep you in control of your activities and greatly increase your productivity and earning potential. Inefficient time management leads to rapid overload, clientele loss, and financial losses.

Two easy time management tips are to schedule your day and establish your work hours. These will help you maintain concentration while working and stop you from working too much. Tell your family and friends while you’re at the workplace so they won’t disturb you, and don’t answer social media while working. It is important to stick to your work schedule to cultivate the habit of self-discipline.

5. Difficulty separating personal life from professional life

There is a great pleasure that comes with leaving work in the workplace and coming home to relax. You lose that when you become self-employed.

Self-employed individuals often blur the lines between work and pleasure. They tend to either be too relaxed or overwork themselves. This is especially true for those who work from the comfort of their homes. It’s easy to get distracted from your work when you’re working at home.

There may be a chore that needs your attention or a friend that wants to hang out. Likewise, others may overwork themselves to make more money.

To avoid this, it is best to have a designated office outside of your home, so you can focus all your attention on work when you’re there. Or you could put aside a space in your home that is specifically for work. Whenever you’re there, no more play, and when you leave there, no more work. Let family and friends know when you’re free to chat and when you’re not.

6. Undermining your abilities

Many of us are hidden gems but we don’t know it yet. You could be so talented and amazing but if you do not know that or are not able to portray your worth to others, then you end up selling yourself short.

Undermining the value of your talents and ideas is a huge hurdle to self-employment in Nigeria. Believe in the value you provide and in yourself. Don’t give out discounts that aren’t justified. It’s an unwinnable race to the bottom.

The key to battling this problem is knowing the value of your talents and skills. Do not undermine your abilities, however, you should avoid exaggerating them either. If you feel like you fall short, then maybe you should invest in some professional development.

7. Giving up too early

The first months of owning a business venture are always the most challenging. Having a steady stream of customers will not be given to you on a platter as soon as you start, you must work quite hard for it.

Sometimes, it might seem that your hard work isn’t paying off in the sense that you’re not getting as many clients as you’d like and not making as much money as you want.

Identifying your target market or your consumers is really difficult, and you won’t be in business for very long if you can’t identify enough of them. You still need to comprehend the workings of the market and persevere.

If potential customers are unaware of you, they won’t approach you, thus your business’s foundation must be built on marketing and sales. Whether it’s via in-person networking, social media marketing, or any other method, get the word out about your goods and services and don’t stop until people start to notice and come in.

Conclusion

In the end, working for yourself in Nigeria has its benefits, such as the prestige of being your boss, but it also has drawbacks. Being conscious of them will strengthen your mind and enable you to rapidly adjust to your business objectives. And the more successful you are as an independent contractor, the faster you learn to adapt and become tough.

Although there isn’t a single solution to these problems, you can lessen their effects on your company. It doesn’t take a soothsayer to understand that self-employed individuals assume more risks than traditional Nigerian workers. Every arrangement has advantages and disadvantages of its own, so if you decide to pursue self-employment in Nigeria, you should be informed of the main obstacles in your way so that you may overcome them more skillfully.

When it comes to staying ahead in any marketing scenario, many concepts and strategies come to mind.

As an entrepreneur or a business owner, knowing how to navigate your way to the top in an already saturated and over-competitive market becomes the greatest advantage that will make the difference in the long run.

However,  there is a business model that is hardly spoken about.  Although,  it’s not a novel approach, when fully and effectively implemented will give you a lasting edge over your competitors in the market.

The good news is that this business model is more suitable for startups and SMEs.  These set of businesses and entrepreneurs must seek ways to not just enter the market, but dominate the market that is already dominated by the whales and sharks.

This is where disruptive entrepreneurship or innovation comes into play. And those who have mastered the act of disruption in their various markets become the winner of the day.

This article talks about disruption entrepreneurship, the misconceptions, and more.

What is disruptive entrepreneurship

The word disruption tells of a process where a small or medium-scale entrepreneur with little resources can dominate and challenge successfully an already established and well-placed business.

This usually happens as the incumbent or established business is poised to improve and perfect its services or products for its most assuring and most profitable customers. During this time, they unknowingly exceed the needs of their other customers and ignore their need for an affordable yet modest product or service.

When this happens,  a smaller business can take advantage of this loophole or gap and launch its products and services to target the low-end customer while it perfects its product or services for the larger market.

How disruption takes place

Disruptive innovation or entrepreneurship takes place in low-end or new market foothold.

Businesses that prove disruptive start by adequately monitoring and looking out for those underserved segments or consumers in any business scenario and seeking to establish a foothold by delivering them more suitable products or services that meet their needs at a reduced price.

Over time these businesses improve their products and services to better serve a larger segment beyond the underserved. Gradually,  it gained a foothold in the larger consumer market by offering a better service at a cheaper rate than its dominant competitors.  When they have succeeded in becoming dominant as a result of this strategy, it’s safe to say that disruption has taken place.

A vivid example of this type of disruption is typical of Richard Brandson of the Virgin group.

For example,  he saw that the Aviation market was undeserving of its consumers, and launched Virgin Atlantic, which is a flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Though he was competing against the financial and established might of British airlines,  he was able to gradually scale up to scoop most of their customers and before they could realize it, he had already become a force to reckon with in the aviation market

Also, disruption can be seen on the other hand as follows: when a business turns a large segment of non-consumers into consumers of a particular product and service.

A good example was when Ford introduced the assembly line of batch production for his Model T car. This innovation gave rise to a large segment of people who had never driven a car to become consumers because it was cheap, novel, and innovative.

Pros of disruptive entrepreneurship

1. Innovation

When it comes to disruptive entrepreneurship,  innovation is a the core of it. To be able to sway and convert the larger segment of consumers, businesses must be able to come up with something better and yet cheaper than their established competitors.

2. Disruption

The term disruption has often been seen as a negation.  However, in this context,  it’s on a positive note. Disruption in the sense that it fosters competition and shakes the status quo

3. New growth opportunity

A business employing disruption as a business model is poised to grow massively both in management and revenue

3. Increase brand loyalty

Disruptive businesses tend to have more loyal consumers because they appeal not just to their immediate satisfaction but also to their emotions.  This is what has made Apple stand out over time. To many customers, Apple Inc. is a cause to live for

Cons of disruptive entrepreneurship

1. Risk

Disruptive innovation is risky as it may not always be successful in the long run. A business might succeed in disrupting a sector,  however, it may not turn out to be a success. This is because they may not have the managerial expertise in place and this may cause dysfunctional decision systems to be implemented which may harm the company.

2. Disruption takes time and patience

It’s not just as it seems.  Disruption is daunting and sometimes it may take years for the the mission to be accomplished

Misconception about disruption

The term disruption has often been mixed with any breakthrough that changes any market competitive pattern, and oftentimes, this is not the case. By the rule of thumb, every breakthrough in the market is not a disruption,  and all disruption does not also characterize a breakthrough.

And so it is important businesses know what a business or innovative breakthrough is and what a disruption is, so that one may not be mistaken for another in any business scenario.

For example,  it has been widely accepted that Uber disrupted the cab market. But looking at the two criteria that demonstrate a disruption,  Uber does not fall into any of that category.  First, Uber never aimed to compete with any established cab company that has ignored a segment of their customers. Secondly, Uber did not in any way turn large segments of non-consumers into consumers.

Therefore in light of this prevailing fact, one can conclude that Uber is not a disruptive business or innovation.

Conclusion

Disruption is a process and not an end as many suppose.  The idea of disruptive innovation can be a tool for challenging the status quo causing a major shift in consumer appreciation and also fostering growth in that sector. And for the most part, the startups and SMEs are the major benefactors.

The post How to successfully pitch proposals for a business contract appeared first on World News: Entertainment, lifestyle, Health, Technology.

]]>

I still remember early this year when I secured an opportunity for a dear friend for a contract.

The management of a renowned company had decided to have the whole facility painted again. And openings were sent out for different proposals.  Being part of the management,  I intimated my friend who is a painter to come up with his proposal.

His proposal was great, well-detailed, and of course more professional than the rest.

I knew all this because I was privy and had access to them all. Unfortunately,  those parameters weren’t enough, and he lost the contract to someone else.

The question is what happened,  and what did he do and didn’t do?

You see, writing a winning proposal is one thing, pitching the proposals for it to be considered above everyone else is another thing.

There is a lot of groundwork to do when you want to stand out amid the multitude.

Pitching is a craft that you must master. However, there are many factors to be considered in this respect.

This article examines all there is to know and do when it comes to getting pitching proposals that win ultimately.

Template for a winning proposal

A good proposal entails different parameters that must be met. Though not in their order, below are some of the templates for a winning proposal

1. Know your onions

Now you have been allowed to pitch a proposal.  But the question is whether you are good at your craft.  This is important because a whole lot of people can put up a good proposal with the help of others,  but delivery on promise is another thing.  Though this might not impact your clinching the contract, you must perfect your craft. Especially if you want to be recommended by those who have contracted you and you want to make a name for yourself.

2. Have insider knowledge about the project

Having an insider knowledge about the project is very critical. This will help you have information that may help your choice of proposal.

For example,  there might be an amount already budgeted by the company for the contract, and there might be other bureaucracies that might be involved. Having insider knowledge about all these will help you to make an informed choice regarding how the proposal must look.

One of the ways to do this is to make inquiries and get to meet a staff member who is privy to the contract or one who has access to the management.  This may require some sort of sacrifice on your part. However,  it may be worth doing in the end.

3. Do some background checks on the people who constitute the board

Another important aspect of getting a contract is doing a thorough background check on the people who may constitute the panel for the approval of the contract.

A friend once told me, how he takes it a rule to always try to know everything about these people. You can get information regarding their background,  education, and expertise from the media or a close source in the company.

With this information,  you’re better armed. And you are likely to predict how each of them will impact the pitching process

4. Do your research and inspection

If you’re working on something tangible,  then you must be there to do all the necessary measurements and estimations.  This is important as it’s critical to make an informed choice on the cost of the material to be used.

Get to know the current price of materials that will be needed for the work, and put all these into consideration when writing the budget.

5. Craft your proposal and give an offer that stands out

Having said all the above, it’s time to write your proposals. A good proposal should be reminiscent of the actual need of the company,  one that offers that solution in its entirety. It should stand out with the information you have gleaned from your research, and from having an insider knowledge about the contract.

And most importantly,  the proposal should be cost-effective and it should reflect the ideal budget of the company.

How to pitch your proposal

Now the proposal is ready.  You have invested your time, money, and effort. I’m coming up with a killer proposal.  But that’s just the first stage. Like the story of a dear friend I narrated, a good proposal does not necessarily mean the contract is yours. You will have to appear and make your case stand out too.

Be relaxed and speak emphatically,  but slowly

When pitching for a contract,  you must watch your demeanor.  Never appear to be hypertensive.  Be in charge, and appear relaxed when you speak with a firm tone. However, you must not be too fast. Let each word sink.

Be flexible but with a reasonable limit

When it comes to pitching a proposal,  you have to be street-smart. You don’t have to be rigid and defensive.  Sometimes members of the panel might just throw up words to test your resistance level.  Be flexible with the budget in your finances.

Generally,  you must understand the direction the meeting is heading and you must do everything to steer it in your favour

Make it concise

Pitch that win contracts are not always elaborate. They are concise and straight to the point. This is of utmost importance.  Remember no one has time. There is no need to give a sermon in proposing.  It’s not needed.

Your proposals may be elaborate,  but your pitching must be concise, and quick. It must be straightforward and to the point.

Conclusion

In today’s fast and multifaceted society,  you need all the information you can glean to stay ahead of the game in any scenario.  And this is also true for winning a contract. You must put in the work and make it stand out. As I said,  arm yourself with insider knowledge,  get to know those who may constitute the panel, and put up a proposal that will resonate with their desires and expectations.

By becoming a transcriber, you may work from home as a typist who types papers based on audio recordings. You get to choose your working hours and how long you want to work while making a substantial amount of money. Who will say no to that?

The ability to work whenever you choose, day or night, is one of the best aspects of becoming a transcriber. This implies that you can adjust to your timetable as you like. You may make money before kids get up in the morning after they go to bed at night, or at any time in between. As long as you can set aside a little time during the day, you can make money transcribing no matter the engagements you have during the day.

If you’re interested in making money from home transcribing, then read on as I’ll highlight all you need to know in this article.

What is transcription?

Transcription is the process of converting spoken words to a written format. It may be an audio or video recording, all you have to do is listen carefully and type what you hear.

Transcription has become integral in many sectors, as there is a great need to preserve files in written form. Since many sectors including medical, legal, academic and so on, require transcription, there are subcategories in transcription to choose from. General transcribing, medical transcription, and legal transcription are all career options.

There are two categories of transcribing work. They include:

  1. Verbatim

Verbatim transcription includes transcribing every text, including “umms, ahhs,” and laughs.

  1. Non-verbatim

Non-verbatim transcription requires transcribing the pertinent material and making a few minor grammatical adjustments.

How much do transcribers earn?

A lot of people will say they are in their career path due to the passion they have or the joy they derive from it. However, no one will stick to a career no matter how fulfilling it is if they can not make a living from it. We all need to eat, drink and cater to our basic needs, don’t we?

So before deciding to become a transcriber, it is important to consider whether you can make money from it and how much exactly you have the potential to make.

Pay rates for transcriptionists differ from company to company. Some charge by the minute or hour for audio or video, while others charge by the word.

However, it is important to note that being paid per audio minute or hour is not the same as being paid per minute or hour. You need more than one minute to transcribe a file of one minute, but you get paid for the minute of recording you transcribe, not the actual time you take to transcribe. On average, it takes about 4 minutes to transcribe one minute of audio recording.

So if a transcription company pays you a certain amount per minute, it doesn’t mean that you’ll earn that amount every minute but after transcribing a minute of audio file. This implies that you have extensive influence over your revenue. The quicker you can transcribe a media minute or audio hour the more proficient you become at transcribing. And it can result in you earning more money.

As a seasoned transcriptionist, you may often earn between $15 and $25 per hour, whether you specialize in legal, general, or medical transcription. A transcriptionist who is just starting could make much less money.

You may advance in the industry and take on more profitable transcribing assignments with some work and experience. The highest monthly earnings from the best transcribing jobs may be able to replace your day job.

Where can I learn transcription?

Without taking a course, you may undoubtedly get employment as a transcriptionist. Several businesses employ inexperienced beginning transcriptionists.

However, people who enrol in top-notch transcribing classes will have a significant advantage when applying for higher-paying positions.

Before you even get your first job, the Transcribe Anywhere course (or a similarly excellent course) will educate you on how to be a professional transcriptionist.

Although there are many online transcribing jobs available, the best and highest-paid ones go to typists who are experts in their fields, so it may be worth your while to invest in transcription courses.

While the duration of each course varies, the Transcribe Anywhere course typically lasts between two and four months. Because you may complete the course at your speed, there is some variation in the time required.

Companies that employ rookie transcriptionists

Many organizations employ novice transcriptionists. There are requirements for certain transcribing jobs. Before hiring you, several organizations in the transcribing sector need you to undergo assessments.

Keep in mind that the majority of transcription firms use independent contractors for their transcriptionists. That implies that you will be in charge of maintaining a record of your earnings and outgoings.

Additionally, independent contractors are in charge of paying their taxes. For this reason, you’ll need to be sure to save some money from each paycheck.

Some of the top companies that hire transcriptionists include Rev, GMR Transcription, Daily Transcription, GoTranscript, etc.

How to succeed as a transcriptionist

The truth of the matter is, that you are not guaranteed easy money just because you are a transcriber, but you can earn easy money as a transcriber. There are several tips that if you incorporate into your journey to becoming a transcriber, would make you among the top in the field, which I will highlight below. These tips could very well be the difference between earning peanuts and making a living with transcription.

1. Enrol in a good transcription course

Transcription courses could be expensive, but it is very worth it. With good transcription courses, you don’t have to go through all the hassles of being a rookie transcriptionist. They will teach you all the ropes, and some courses can give you information on how to attract high-paying jobs.

2. Improve your typing speed

With transcription, the amount you earn depends on how you are since most companies pay by audio minute or hour. If you are a fast enough typist, you can transcribe faster than average and earn more money as a result.

3. Aim for 100% accuracy

A great emphasis is laid on accuracy in transcription. The more accurate your work is, the higher your level as a transcriptionist. On the other hand, if you consistently submit work riddled with errors, it will bring down your level or even get you terminated.

4. Use good equipment

A lot of people take for granted the amount of good a quality headset and foot pedal can do. If you want to earn a significant amount of money from transcribing, you must have all the required equipment. They will make your work much faster, and earn you more money as a result.

5. Be reliable and consistent

Every company loves a good employee, and transcription companies are no exception. Not only will you get plus points with the company you are working for, but clients will much rather work with you.

6. Choose a niche

Anyone can become a general transcriptionist by learning the basics and implementing them. But if you want to stand out from the crowd and earn more, you may need to specialize. Profitable niches include legal and medical transcription. On average, you can earn more as a legal or medical transcriptionist than a general transcriptionist. However, you may need to learn more difficult terminologies and undergo more specialised training to make it in these niches.

Conclusion

It is feasible to work as a transcriptionist from home. But if you enrol in a good training program, you’ll make more money and become an expert faster.

As you acquire expertise, you could be able to make $100 or more per day at work as a transcriptionist.

You may make more money with every week of experience, depending on your accuracy and word-per-minute typing speed as well as how well you can transcribe the media file.
