2ND STEP: $73,528.00 per annum

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Manager, Development Services, to respond to inquiries made to the Department about development planning proposals and other planning matters; to undertake required work on Committee of Adjustment, site plan and part lot control applications, and on minor rezoning and official plan amendment applications.
- Respond to general inquiries and provide prompt customer service.
- Review, process, and formulate a planning opinion on Committee of Adjustment, site plan and part lot control applications, and on minor rezoning and official plan amendment applications.
- Process applications to include: circulating for comment to departments and agencies; coordinating and analyzing comments; conducting research; attending and conducting site visits, preparing reports and recommendations; attending and making presentations at Development Review Team, Planning and Development Committee, Site Plan Committee, the Committee of Adjustment and Corporate Teams; preparing implementation documents (by-laws, official plan amendments, conditions of draft plan approval); providing comments on site plan and rezoning agreements.
- Liaise with City departments and agencies and the public on planning proposals and planning matters.
- Attend and provide professional planning evidence at Local Planning Appeal Tribunal on assigned planning proposals and projects.
- Assist in maintaining data on status of development applications.
- Maintain up-to-date land use planning knowledge through attendance at seminars and courses and through required reading.
- Provide guidance to technical service and administration staff on assigned planning proposals and projects.
- Performs additional similar and related duties as assigned
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- High School graduation plus an additional program of over two (2) and up to three (3) years in Geography, Planning or equivalent.
- Over one (1) year, up to and including two (2) years of experience in land use planning.
- Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and/or the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) as asset.
- Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation with the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) as asset.
- A valid, non-probationary Ontario class G driver’s licence an asset.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
