Newcastle United picked a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, sealing a 4-0 aggregate to book a place in the final.
Arsenal, trailing 2-0 from the first leg, struggled at St. James’ Park as Alexander Isak led Newcastle’s attack, causing problems for Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba.
Isak had an early goal disallowed before Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard hit the post in a rare attacking opportunity.
Shortly after, Jacob Murphy opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, reacting first after Isak’s shot struck the upright.
Newcastle doubled their lead in the 38th minute following a defensive error.
Goalkeeper David Raya’s misplaced pass led to Declan Rice losing possession, allowing Anthony Gordon to score.
Despite improved possession in the second half, Mikel Arteta’s side failed to break down Newcastle’s defence.
Newcastle will now prepare for the Carabao Cup final, while Arsenal shift focus to the Premier League and Champions League.
