Trent Alexander-Arnold has been strongly advised against leaving Liverpool for Real Madrid.
Former France midfielder Emmanuel Petit warns the England international would be walking into a “mess” at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Reports suggest Alexander-Arnold is ready to leave Anfield on a free transfer this summer, with Real Madrid poised to offer a long-term contract.
However, despite the allure of Spain’s most decorated club, Petit believes the timing is wrong.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold is a legend at Liverpool,” Petit told Sambaslots. “He’s on course to win the Premier League again.
“Why go to Real Madrid now when they’re in disarray? If you have a couple of bad games, you get killed by the fans. There’s no support.”
Petit, who played for Barcelona and Chelsea, criticized the current environment at Madrid, where Carlo Ancelotti’s position is under threat following a disappointing campaign.
Los Blancos have exited the Champions League and trail rivals Barcelona in La Liga by seven points.
“Right now, they’re booing Mbappe and Vinicius. What do you think will happen to Trent if he doesn’t hit the ground running?
“He’ll be under massive pressure every single week. At Liverpool, he’s protected. He belongs,” Petit added.
